General Manager
Verus Search has been retained by an award-winning, family-owned transport and logistics company as they seek to appoint an experienced General Manager for their haulage division.
As a leading provider of road freight services across Ireland and the UK, our client supports a diverse customer base across multiple sectors. This is a newly created senior leadership role, driven by the continued growth of the business. You will provide hands-on leadership across operations, people management, and commercial relationships -playing a pivotal part in shaping how the business scales profitably and sustainably.
Reporting to the Operational Director and Managing Director, the General Manager will be the operational heartbeat of the business. You will work across our UK and Ireland depot network to ensure the right people, structures, equipment, and systems are in place to deliver excellent service, manage risk, and drive commercial performance.
This is a broad, hands-on role suited to someone equally comfortable in board-level commercial conversations and on the ground with drivers and operations teams. They should possess the following skills and experience:
A minimum of three years’ experience in a transport or logistics management role, with full operational responsibility for fleet performance, compliance, and service delivery within a fast paced environment.
Demonstrable experience leading or contributing to system development, implementation, or integration projects.
Proven track record of managing large, multi-functional teams spanning operations, planning, and customer service, with clear evidence of improving performance, driving accountability, and embedding a high performance culture.
Strong commercial acumen, with experience engaging and influencing customers and suppliers at senior management or board level.
Holds a valid UK driving licence and has access to a vehicle for business travel, with the flexibility to travel across sites and operational locations as required.
